History

Nexium was approved as a drug used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease. The FDA approved it as a proton pump inhibitor and was first marketed into the public in December 2013. A month after it was released, they later added it as a generic drug named esomeprazole strontium.

Medical Use

As mentioned, Nexium is a drug used to treat GERD or gastroesophageal reflux diseases and works by reducing the amount of acid that the stomach develops inside the body. Aside from reducing acid, the drug is also used to promote the healing of esophagus damage caused by stomach acid called erosive esophagitis. It can also be used to prevent gastric ulcer and cure infections.
