History
Pregabalin was made in 1990 as an anticonvulsant drug. A chemist named Richard Bruce Silverman at the Northwestern University of Chicago first invented it. He is known for categorizing pregabalin as a probable cure for involuntary epileptic seizures. From 1988 to 1990 a visiting research colleague of Silverman named Ryszard Andruszkiewicz, produced a series of molecules for his colleague. The molecule was excellently shaped for carriage to the brain, where it triggered L-Glutamic acid and decarboxylase, which is an enzyme.
In 2004 the drug was then approved by the European Union. In December 2004, The US then received the FDA approval for use in treating epilepsy, diabetic neuropathic pain, and postherpetic neuralgia.
Medical Use
As mentioned, this drug is used primarily to treat involuntary epileptic seizures. Along with that, it is also used to treat fibromyalgia, pain cause by damages in the nerve for people who have diabetes, herpes zoster, (neuropathic pain that is associated with spinal cord injury or post herpetic neuralgia.
The drug also affects the chemicals that can be found in the brain that sends pain signals all over the nervous system.
