History

Levaquin was first approved in Japan for marketing in 1993. Daiichi marketed it under the name cravit for oral administration. Working very closely with Johnson and Johnson, Daiichi had obtained FDA approval for this drug in 1996 under the name levaquin primarily to treat bacterial sinusitis, skin infections and other bacterial infections in the body.

Medical Uses

As mentioned above, levaquin is used to treat various infections either on the inside or the outside of the body. Doctors will normally prescribe this if you are experiencing respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infection, cellulitis, anthrax, prostatitis, meningitis, endocarditis, traveler’s diarrhea, tuberculosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, plague. This drug can also be used orally, in eye drop form and intravenously.

Aside from those mentioned, it can also help treat pneumonia and abdominal infections. If you have other options to treat these illnesses, you should only consider this drug if there is no other option, because it can cause some very serious side effects.

Warnings and precautions

Taking this drug may increase the risk of getting ruptured tendons and tendinitis no matter what age. If you also have heart, kidney, or lung transplant, make sure to consult with your doctor before taking this drug.
