History

Insulin glargine or otherwise known as its brand name which is lantus solostar, was first developed and conducted at a competence center in Frankfurt-Hochst, named Sanofi-Aventi’s Biotechnology competence center. The product is supplied to over 100 countries all over the world, and more than 5 million patients. 

On June 9, 2000 the European commission officially approved the launching of Sanofi-aventis Germany LTD. The admission for this drug started to become prolonged on june 9, 2004.

Medical Uses

Insulin glargine is included in the class of long acting insulin, which usually do not appear better than the neutral hagedorn protamine insuline. These have higher costs, but have been proven to be completely useless as of 2010. Unlike some other insulin that acts as long acting, glargine cannot be diluted or mixed with other insulin solutions in the same syringe, but has been questioned.

Warnings and precautions

If you are going to use a pen like this to treat your diabetes, you must be aware that you should never share it with another person even if you change the needle. Also make sure that you do not reuse vials or syringes because it can cause transmission of blood borne pathogens, which can be quite dangerous. If not taken correctly and at the right dosage, It may affect glycemic control which can lead to hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. Make sure that the changes and other things that need to be done with your insulin pen, should be closely monitored by a healthcare expert, so as not to be put into risk.
