History

Itermezzo was originally marketed as Ambien and available all over the world under many brand names. It was primarily used as a sedative to treat sleeping disorders other than insomnia. It works rather quickly and will be able to send you to sleep in less than 15 minutes after you take it. In 2013, the United States Food and Drug Administration required that manufacturers decrease the dosage recommended for women by at least half because it can leave people feeling drowsy in the morning or at risk of car accidents.

Medical Uses

Doctors will normally prescribe this drug for short-term usage only, which means two to six weeks for the treatment of sleeping disorders like insomnia. Aside from treating sleeping problems, it also has some muscle relaxants and anticonvulsant properties but unfortunately has not been approved for use in muscle relaxation and seizure prevention.

Warnings and Precautions

You should notify your doctor if after you take these drugs you still feel sleepy or drowsy so that they can give you a preferred dosage that is safe to use. Taking too much of this can cause your body to have an overdependence, thus will be hard for you to stop and can result into severe withdrawal symptoms. Like drug addiction, the withdrawal symptoms will be quite similar, so make sure to check with your doctor before upgrading the dosage.
