Medical Uses

Atripla is a prescription-only medication used either in monotherapy or in combination therapy with other anti-HIV-1 medications. Its use is limited only to adults and children with HIV-1 infections; both should be at least 12 years old and weigh at least 40 kilograms (88 pounds).

Emphasis must be made that Atripla cures neither HIV-1 infection nor AIDS. Patients on Atripla therapy may then continue experiences HIV-1-associated illnesses, such as opportunistic infections (e.g., pneumonia).

According to its manufacturers, the regular and proper use of Atripla can contribute to getting a patients viral load to undetectable levels. It was proven effective in decreasing the amount of HIV-1, known as the viral load, in the blood as well as in increasing the CD4+ T-cell count. This means a patient can experience the signs of an improved immune system through the 3-year recommended treatment period for adults new to the therapy program.

Atripla is a one-pill-a-day medication, perhaps the only pill that will be prescribed for patients in the management of their HIV-1 infection. It actually combines three HIV-1 medication in a single pill, thus, the convenience.

Be sure to follow your doctor’s recommendations when taking Atripla and to see him on a regular basis, or as instructed. When you experience unusual symptoms, check with your doctor ASAP, too.
